How will the VU/VUMC separation affect Technology Transfer? We have been asked that countless times over the past year, and I am sure most every other administrative unit has fielded similar questions many times. Every monumental accomplishment involves its challenges, and we have had to think carefully how to reposition Technology Transfer to remain highly effective in serving the Vanderbilt community going forward.
The separation has led to some fundamental changes to how intellectual property is protected and managed. CTTC now reports up to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, though we continue to serve both Vanderbilt University’s and the Medical Center’s technology commercialization needs. The Vanderbilt intellectual property policy was adjusted to reflect this new structure.
