Prior to the start of the 2012 Fiscal Year the leadership at Vanderbilt University envisioned a new way
of commercializing technology that repositioned the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization
(CTTC) and enabled a year of tremendous growth and refinement. The responsibility for our
office - previously known as the Office of Tech Transfer and Enterprise Development - was entrusted
to Dr. Gordon Bernard, who oversees the management of many aspects of research and development
in the Vanderbilt Medical School, including the Office of Contracts Management, the Vanderbilt
Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, and the Institutional Review Board, among others.
Soon after this shift in administration, Alan Bentley was recruited to serve as the new assistant vice
chancellor for technology transfer, and the reinvention of the office began.
